My 10 reasons for the Blood Angels

The Blood Angels already had a rough recent past with the Baal System being omnomnomed by Tyrandis, but things will get even worse with the 8th Edition: Nearly wiped out by the Tyrandis – and I can’t think of anyone better I would rather be wiped out by – only to be rescued in the last Moment by Roboute Guilliman and their personal Daemon of Khorne. Who needs enemies, if he has friends like this? A good Moment in time to take a look at what makes the Blood Angles a great Faction for me …

  1. Heresy, and I mean the real one. I very much like the fact that they – just like their Dark Angels Brothers – are a perversion of Christian Iconography, History, Traditions and Believes. They drink real Blood, they call themselves Angles – but all they are is raging Killing Machines.
  2. Space Hulk (and Star Quest). For me Warhammer 40.000 started with Star Quest and Space Hulk. If I had to choose one Icon for the whole Setting – it would be a Blood Angels Terminator. Nothing looks cooler, nothing is more 40k to me than this. Plus: The Terminator Minis of the current Space Hulk Edition are by far the best Minis of the whole product range.
  3. Assault. I can tell so much: I love Assault Marines. And I love rushing towards your enemy. And punching a big hole into his Army. Every one loves it. The only thing better than this, is sitting behind a Tidewall and shooting down everything that moves. But that’s another topic for another day.
  4. Luzifer Engines. Faster Rhinos, faster Tanks – how can you not love it?! Plus: The Name! Angels using Luzifer Engines – how awesome.
  5. Flamers, Hand-Flamers and Heavy Flamers and Tank-size Flamers. I can’t exactly say why, but … Flamers are my favourite Weapon. And the Blood Angels field many of them. And of course: The mighty mighty Baal Predator. A faster Tank, with a Flamer as it’s main Weapon, and optional Flamers on it’s sides … if you’ve read, what I wrorte above, than it’s not hard  for you to guess, that this is exactly my thing. And it’s the only Tank in the Game, I like.
  6. Red looks always good. Aggressive. It’s been the colour of War since Ancient Rome. And it’s easy to paint.
  7. Apothecarii. I like Apothecary. The Blood Angels like them even more. They are an own HQ-Choice, plus they can take Jump Packs. Fits like a glove, I would say.
  8. They are 30k ready. And – just like the White Scars – they didn’t even change their Colour Scheme. Aaand they look awesome in their beautiful  Mark IV Helmets, while defending the Holy Palace on Terra.
  9. Sanguinius is dead. I mean seriously … what kind of Primarch just get’s “lost”? Either you stay with your Dudes or at least with the Carcass Lighthouse that is you Father, or you die. And when it comes to me … I love Hamlet … so dying is the cooler option.
  10. Renaissance. This Renaissance thing actually is a kind of funny. The Michelangelos of Murder. The da Vincis of Death. The Raphaels of Slaughter. Yeah, I really get to like this …

… and yes, I didn’t mention that Vampire thing. Yes, it’s important to them, no story without the Red Thirst or the Black Rage. But to me it’s kinda … whatever. They are dark enough for me even without their Vampire Curse. Michelangelos of Murder*giggle* …
