Isbrands Stoneborn – First Pack, first Blood

After many years, many diversions, many thoughts and many many Euros in unbuilt and unpainted Minis … I finnaly managed to get something, anything done.

This ist my Kill Team, called Isbrands Stoneborn. It’s quite obvious that I tend towards the 2nd Edition Colour Scheme, with lots of bright and warm Colours, esp. yellow and red. I added warm brown tones for everything leathery and a warm sandy tone for everything made of cloths. As they are associated with stones, their Chest decorations are also in a stone like colour (and not the usual gold).

The Stoneborn are a Lost Company in M40.999 and are the predecessor of the Stormwolves, and so they also wear the Stormwolf as their Icon. Actually I plan on adding Bjorn Stormwolf as a Character later on, but befor he became Wolf Lord.

Right now the Stoneborn are a mixed Kill Team and as Isbrand, their Leader ist still a Blood Claw that whole Pack wears yellow and red as Packmarkings. As you can easily see the Pack consists of two Wolves of every Unit Type currently available in the Kill Team Core Manual.

Left to right: Marcus, Wolf Priest Apprentice and Medic Specialis; Isbrand, Leader of the Pack.

Isbrand the Leader of the Pack, will later become the Wolf Lord of the Stoneborn Great Company. He’s a Pre-Primaris Marine and now for his humor. He wears one of Spell Crows “Space Knights heads with long hair” and his bolt pistol has a Kromlech Thundergun suppressor MK 1.

Marcus is his second in command and the Medic Specialist of the Team. He’s a Wolf Priest apprentice, which is also the reason why he doens’t wear a wolf priest black armour. He’s got the Torso, Backpack and Narthecium of a common Apothecary. I consider the Reavers Helmets rediculous on the Reavers, but for a Wolf Pries apprentice, it fits just perfect.

Huron Nightwolf, and Jangorn Whitepelt – Wolfscouts loyal to Isbrand

Huron Nightwolf wears a special Scout Mask that a martian Tech Priest made just for him. The Head is of course that of a regular Skitarii Ranger. On his back, he carries a shield of the Ironbreakers of the Dispossessed .

Jangorns has the arm of a Chaos Marauder and another Spellcrow Head, this time “Space Knights with Beards”.

Jorge Thunderstep and Jantun Iceberg

I still really don’t like how the Primaris Marines were introduced into the setting – taller, faster, bigger, better, with less flaws, with no flaws at all, without a dark secret or just anything to make them fit into the setting, fit among the other Astartes. So I tend to consider all my Primaris to be Jotunn, Frost Giants (as Brother Gemini suggested) – they all get pake skin and white-blue hair. This is the least I can do, to set them apart.

Having said that: The Minis are just great. I added a Wildwood Rangers Blade to Jorge as well as a small Wolftail-Totem. And Jatun obviously got a Standard Space Wolves Head. I was courious how wolfy they look with just some minor kitbashing. They both are from the Easy to Build Intercessors Set.

Lars Stoneshield and Kjielf Darkheart – Isbrands Rievers

I did buy the Kill Team Space Wolves Starter Box, so I got Reivers Primaris too. Their Armour and the Winged Backpacks look just aweseome, some of the best Minis among the Astartes. But the Reivers Hemlets are just ridiculous. So I replaced them with a classic Space Wolves Wolf-Helmet and … (I do have to smile about that) … a Dark Angels Veterans Hooded Helmet. I really like how that one came out and I think, that I’ll be using them more often within my force.

Summa Spacewolfum

I primed them all white, on hope of getting a lighter Grey for the main armour. I used all the basic Base Colours, Washes and Layers suggested by Games Workshop, and I am pretty happy with the results. Esp. the Reivers have a great armour and the many pouches add a great second colour. For the yellows I just stick to Averland Sunset and Washes of Cassandora Yellow and Fuegan Orange, no other Highlights or layers, and I really like how strong it turned out.

Whe I got into Kill Team, I decided to just have two of each Unit Type for the Start. As it turned out, my Minis have so complete wrong Loadout regarding Weapons, so I will have to do some more Marines for Kill Team. Especially more with Flamethrowers. On the other Hand … I still have enought unbuild Minis to start with a regular Squad of Blood Claws or Grey Hunters …
